I have a head cold and have been sleeping a lot. Here. Go read this. Or talk about The Dark Knight or something. Gah.

*mumbles about the damn Internet before sneezing again*

A new word to share and enjoy

Jul. 18th, 2008 | 12:59 pm

nervice
(from "nerd" + "service")
n. A lap dance performed by the marketing departments of international entertainment conglomerates, calculated and designed to separate nerds from their money.

"That Watchmen trailer was pure nervice."

(I don't mean to unfairly bag on the Watchmen trailer -- it just encapsulates so much of what's wrong with Hollywood as Nerdvana at this point. I would just like a major cultural movement that doesn't consist of "straight-out fan service by taking one of the most intricate and interesting graphic novels ever written and turning Rorschach into a Wolverine rip-off and making Silk Spectre Gothy with bigger titties.")

(And from the cynical industry standpoint, the only reason this Zach Snyder guy's getting the nod is because he's proven he's a "comic book guy" and can bring it in on the cheap. No blown-out Gilliam budgets or struggles about "artistic control" here!)

(Why, yes, this taps into a hell of a lot of concerns I have about modern creativity. Glad you asked!)

(This parenthetical has no reason to be here.)

TONIGHT!

Me, comedy, ImprovBoston. Clicky for details!

Remember: it's in Central; it's the smaller theater. Also, the circulation in the smaller theater is somewhat lacking, so bring your hand fans and portable heat sinks.

Great, someone's taken the FLORIDA tag from FARK and made an official blog. I have to have this crazy admiration for the sheer insanity of my (more or less) home state. I'm still claiming Michigan, though. Clinging to that like a cliffface.

What's the news of the world, people? Of YOUR worlds?

Having finally seen the New Yorker Obama cover in reality, I can say, without fear of contradiction, that anyone who does not get it is either a complete moron or getting paid millions to be one on cable news.

Marrying/Comedy

Jul. 7th, 2008 | 01:48 pm

This Saturday past, I had the privilege of performing the wedding ceremony for [info]uncletang and [info]mobilejessie. I'm just thrilled that two of my favorite people got to stand in front of like THE WORLD and declare how awesome they think the other is. And I did pretty good. (This also means that I'm a Reverend of the Universal Life Church. Don't fuck with the kohanim!)

These next few Fridays upcoming, I'm going to be performing in a sketch comedy show called The Ruckus. That's July 11, 18 and 25. If you want more info, or want to buy tickets online, hit this shit up. (Right now the show is listed as "SketchHaus", but that's the one you want to clicky.)

I think I'm finally beginning to relax.

How come no one told me that Textism was online again?

and while on the subject of webs past, I put the km archives back up. no use having them loiter around the house anymore. need to get a jobby-job. I removed the entries that were me whining about the web (although the anti-Burning Man and Bush pieces come close to Spoonfed-levels of invective; they're only here in that they fit the theme of the creative process, as its failures and its enemies). I'm not entirely satisfied with how it ended, and I may yet spruce it up, but as a collection of Zen-influenced gestalts of where I was and how my writing was changing, I think it works. Certain parties will be happier about this than others, but what the hell: can't pretend it didn't happen.
